Happy 1st bornday

This tutorial was written by Chaughna on May 24th 2008 any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental, completely my own work.

Please do not steal my tutorial and use it as your own, if you want to share it then please link people to my group. Thank you.

I used PSP9 but it should work with other versions.

Supplies needed:-

I used scrap kit from Nitwit Collections called Happy Bornday

HERE

Solid template by keley HERE and scallop frame template HERE

The picture was taken by myself of my little man Andrew who will be turning one this Sunday

Font for copyright is 5th Grader & font for text is Cheri, both are free to my knowledge.

Lets Go!

When using scrap kits when you resize them you need to resize using smart size and then sharpen by going Adjust Sharpen or the elements get faded and don't look as good. So when it says resize use this step.

Open new canvas 600 x 600, transparent.

Open your solid template. Copy (Cntrl C). Paste as a new layer on your canvas (Cntrl L).

Open paper of choice, I used bg_stripes. Resize to 600 pixels, copy (Cntrl C), close out, DO NOT SAVE changes.

On your template, select all (Cntrl A), float, defloat, paste into selection. Select none (Cntrl D).

Inner Bevel at these settings:

Bevel 2

Width 5

Smoothness 31

Depth 5

Ambience 0

Shininess 8

Color White

Angle 315

Intensity 38

Elevation 42

(You may want to save this setting as I love to use this one, it's called Puff)

Open up your scallop frame, copy (Cntrl C), paste as a new layer (Cntrl L). (You may need to resize it just a bit smaller if need be). Open up another paper of choice, I used bg_numbers. Resize to 500 pixels, copy (Cntrl C), close out, DO NOT SAVE changes. On scallop frame, select all (Cntrl A), float, defloat, paste into selection, select none (Cntrl D). Inner bevel, same as before.

Open picture of choice to be framed. Copy (Cntrl C), on your work in progress (WIP), paste as new layer on top of your bottom template (Cntrl L), but under your scallop frame, center & resize to your liking. When you are happy with what will be showing, activate your top scallop frame layer, click inside the frame spot with your magic wand at default settings. Expand by 10, invert selection. Activate your picture layer, hit the delete key on your keyboard. Select none (Cntrl D).

Looking pretty cute, huh?

Now to add the pretties. Open up cupcake of choice, copy (Cntrl C), close. On work in progress (WIP), paste as new layer (Cntrl L), resize by 25%, repeat, resize by 50% or 75% as needed to get desired size. Position. Drop shadow with these settings:

Vertical & Horizontal 1

Opacity 40

Blur 2.00

Color Black

Open up candle of choice. Copy (Cntrl C). Close. Paste as new layer Cntrl L). Resize at 25%, repeat and so forth like above. Add drop shadow. Add or not, it's up to you, the number for the candle, add drop shadow. Merge your number down, merge your candle down. You should now have a cupcake with a candle & number all in one. Adjust, Sharpness, sharpen.

Now add your balloons, just like above. Open the red balloon. Copy (Cntrl C). Close. Paste on WIP (Cntrl L). Resize by 25%, resize till the perfect size. Position. Add drop shadow. Repeat with the blue balloon & the white balloon. Merge the balloons together. Sharpen.

Open up the Happy Birthday word art in the Lil Bits kit. Copy (Cntrl C). Close out. Paste onto WIP (Cntrl L). Resize as needed. Position. Drop Shadow. Merge the two words together. Sharpen.

Open up the birthday hat. Same as above, drag it under the word art though. Drop shadow & sharpen.

Now for the text. (I use this technique on most of my taggies).

Click on your ellipse tool. At the top of the screen, click the little down arrow by the A on presets, click the arrow in that box, this will set you back to default settings. Choose circle, line style solid, width 1.00. On your material palette, foreground active (any color will do as we will be erasing it anyway), background color transparent. Drag out, create, a circle, you can drag it out larger by 'pulling' the nodes to make it larger or smaller & by 'grabbing' a solid line of your circle, you can position it anywhere you want. When you are happy with where it's laid out (your text will go on this in an arc shape).

Click your text tool. Set it back to default as well, choose your font, I used Cheri, but any 'fat' font will work. Size, 28 or 36 should be best. Stroke is either 1 or 2, depending on what looks best, I used 1. Center text.

Open paper of choice for text. I used bg_purple. Resize to 250 pixels. Seamless tile at default settings. Change your background color to this pattern, scale 50%. Change your foreground pattern to white. If you hover over the line you just drew, you will get a little A in a boat, that means your text is on your line. Click, add your wording. You can resize your wording just as you normally would by pulling the corners to enlarge or shrink.

On the right hand side of your screen, on your layers palette, on your vector layer, click the plus sign so you can see your text & the New Ellipse. X out the ellipse. Right click on the Vector 1, convert to raster layer. Add drop shadow. I didn't like how the inner bevel looked to me, so I did not inner bevel it.

Activate your bottom template. Add drop shadow.

Vertical & Horizontal 0

Opacity 75

Blur 15.00

Color, choose any color from your picture, I chose a dark blue.

Shadow on new layer checked.

Repeat. You will be shadowing your shadow layer this time, either keep your blue or change colors, I chose red this time.

Repeat, you are now shadowing your shadows shadow. Got it? LOL! Again, keep your blue or whatever, or choose another color. I chose yellow.

Add your copyright, if any. Resize to 500 pixels with all layers checked. Save as JPEG (F12).

Your done!

Thank you for doing this tutorial and I hope you enjoyed.
